Basic Navigation & Boat Handling - Part 1
Suggested Prerequisite Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)
Details This self-study course includes sections covering basic navigation skills (how to use a compass, read and interpret nautical charts, understanding the navigation aids - buoy system, and the basic features and use of electronic navigation devices) as well as boat handling and safety topics including: selecting and using lines and knots, anchoring, docking, understanding and mitigating the impact of weather, collision avoidance rules, anchoring, docking and other related topics. Each section includes course notes, instructional videos, knowledge checks – skill-testing quizzes and exercises, and links to supporting resources. An optional final exam and completion certificate is also available.
This course is designed as a self-study program - the learner is responsible for setting their own pace in completing the material. There is a course schedule to guide participants. Support/assistance is available through an online “student forum” where participants can direct written questions to the instructor team. The response standard for questions is < 24 hours.

Squadrons from coast to coast are offering this course, so we suggest you choose a Squadron from your area/region so we can better respond to questions of a "local" nature.
